Carol Tomlinson, Professor, Curry School of Education

Carol Ann Tomlinson's work in education bridges the public school classroom and the university.  Before joining the faculty at the University of Virginia, she was a public school teacher in differentiated classrooms for 21 years.  She was Virginia's Teacher of the Year in 1974.  At the University of Virginia, she is William Clay Parrish, Jr. Professor, Chair of Educational Leadership, Foundations, and Policy, and Co-Director of Curry’s Institutes on Academic Diversity.  She was named Outstanding Professor in 2004 and received an All University Teaching Award in 2008.  Carol is author of over 200 articles and books on differentiation, including How to Differentiate Instruction in Mixed Ability Classrooms.  Her publications have been translated into 12 languages.  She works with educators around the world to establish more academically responsive classrooms.
