Marco Antonio Torres comes to us today in the flesh for a real up-close-and-personal encounter. He has taught high school for ten years, and has been media coach and education technology director for San Fernando High School, one of the nation’s largest urban schools in Los Angeles.

In addition to his work in the classroom, Marco Torres is also a professional filmmaker and photographer who uses these digital storytelling skills to add value to his curriculum. He has been recognized locally and internationally, including being honored as a California Teacher of the Year, for his accomplishments in the classroom, and for the use of technology to empower minority students.

Torres is an advocate for more collaboration between the media arts world and education and was recruited to serve as a board member for the George Lucas Educational Foundation to promote digital technology.

Torres has presented at numerous conferences throughout the world and his practical workshops help teachers push their teaching and learning to new exciting levels. In addition, many television, radio, online, magazines, books, and news periodicals have highlighted his media rich program.

Keynote Address

It’s not about clicking and dragging! It’s not about Blogging, Podcasting, Web 2.0'in! It’s about teaching and learning, or learning and teaching (if you want to be picky). In this "flattening" world, we are required to be more creative, more flexible, more community-based--however, teachers-- the world still needs GOOD, empathetic, ingenious educators, a teacher, a Yoda! Yeah, you!  The kids, more than ever, need us! Multimedia is a language to our students. If we're smart and ready-- we can use it to be very academic and very rigorous (and have fun a long the way, too). If we use multimedia right-- we can empower in ways that we never imagined. Turn your classroom(s) into a stage, a studio, and into a community and HURRY! The kids are waiting for you to catch up!
